Real world learning succeeds when the classroom isn’t enough.

Internships at Parkmont are not a diversion or extra-curricular activity but rather a mainstay of our curriculum. They're exciting and enriching learning opportunities that teach students what academic areas and careers might inspire them. Check out Parkmont student interns at work on our Scrapbook page.

Students find an area of interest and internship with the help of their advisor, and delve into it for half a year to a year (some switch mid-year). They spend 3 hours, twice a week, gaining skills in the area of their internship, and learning about career opportunities in general. The experience expands their view of the world, and transforms their understanding of themselves and the environment around them.

Students complete a series of written assignments about their internship, conduct several projects and presentations, and are evaluated by their Internship Supervisor each year. What they learn through their internship is integrated into their overall academic curriculum as part of our experiential learning at Parkmont.

Middle School students also have the opportunity to try their hand at internships, spending the last two sessions of the year (14 weeks) at internship sites for two hours per week. (Middle School students are transported to and from their internship by Parkmont staff, and their placement is carefully selected and monitored by their advisor.)
